Office 365 and ADFS 2.0 SSO and Exchange Online

Hi all,

I am in the middle of migrating users over to Office 365. I have added their External Domain to Microsoft Online Portal and configured services, Exchange Online and Lync.

Their will be no external access for the Office 365. This is only intended for internal users. I have tested connection to the OWA and Lync internally and this is working fine for SSO.

I have used a Wild Card Certificate for the Federated Trust with Office 365 and this is working fine. Their External Domain name is different from their Internal Domain, External Domain = .com and Internal Domain = .local. I have configured spilt dns and added the required DNS records for Lync and Exchange Online. I have also added these records on their Hosting provider's side. The problem I having is, when I am configuring the Outlook 2010 profiles to connect to their Exchange Online mailboxes I am continuously prompted for credentials and I can't authenticate. I have verified the DNS records are in place for Exchange Online.

I read somewhere that for Outlook 2007/2010, you need to have a ADFS 2.0 Proxy Server for Internal and External users to use Outlook 2007/2010! Is this correct? I only need to setup the Outlook 2010 profiles to connect to their Exchange Online mailboxes internally and I thought you only need ADFS 2.0 Proxy Server for Remote Users.

I would appreciate all help regarding this.

Thank you.
