We just recently upgraded our Exch 2007 servers to Exch 2010 SP2 Rollup 4-v2. We are still working in co-existence
We are going to move about 150 users from on-premises to cloud (exchange online-Office 365) in a few weeks.
We will setup what is known in Office 365 as Split SMTP Namespace Hybrid Deployment where instead of sharing our current email SMTP domain (i.e. @mydomain.com), we will use a new email SMTP domain (i.e. @seconddomain.com)
I have a couple of questions:
Since users to be moved to the cloud need to be able to receive email on the new email addresses (new SMTP domain name) very soon and we have not yet implemented the hybrid setup, we are planning (for now) to create a new Email Address Policy
to be applied to these users so we can add the new SMTP domain (@seconddomain.com ) as an additional email address in their current email accounts. Obviously there are other steps involved as creating the new domain name on public DNS,
and making sure the new SMTP domain name is configured on Exch 2010 as an Accepted Domain for the organization, etc.
I’m just learning about Exchange Online and from what I’ve been reading so far, it is my understanding that we can add our domain to Office 365 so in our case we could use username@seconddomain.com rather than@domain.onmicrosoft.com. Is this correct?
If this is the case, and we create and apply the new Email Address Policy I mentioned above, I’m assuming we should not have any issues later moving the users from on-premises to the Exchange Online cloud service that have already setup the
@seconddomain.com SMTP domain name, right?
Lastly, I know there is a bunch of info online but if someone knows about one or just a few docs you can share explaining how to setup Exch 2010 in hybrid environment, I would appreciate if you can share it
Thanks in advance!
